PSLE English Tuition in Ang Mo Kio
All four PSLE English papers, taught at Next Level Enrichment, Blk 709 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8.
What is actually tested in PSLE English?
The four PSLE English papers
| Paper 1 — Writing | Situational Writing and Continuous Writing |
|---|---|
| Paper 2 — Language Use and Comprehension | Grammar, vocabulary, cloze, synthesis and transformation, comprehension |
| Paper 3 — Listening Comprehension | Recorded passages and questions |
| Paper 4 — Oral Communication | Reading Aloud and Stimulus-based Conversation |
Why do bright children still lose marks in PSLE English?
Because PSLE English is not a test of whether a child speaks English well — it is a test of precision under exam conditions. A fluent child still drops marks on synthesis and transformation, on grammar cloze, and on Situational Writing where the format and audience carry the marks. These are learnable, mechanical skills, and they are where the fastest gains usually are.
What does an AL1 in English actually require?
An AL1 requires 90 marks or above. In practice that means a child cannot afford to be weak in any one paper: Paper 2 is the largest single block of marks, but Oral and Listening together are worth a substantial share and are the most commonly under-prepared. Next Level Enrichment teaches all four papers rather than only composition.
How are the classes run?
Small groups, up to 1:8, at Blk 709 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8, #02-2593, Singapore 560709 — a short walk from Ang Mo Kio MRT. Written work is marked and returned with specific corrections, because a composition handed back with only a grade on it teaches a child nothing.
