A full day on the 2026 Science paper — the fourteen topics, the answer structures that earn marks, and the long list of things your child does not need to know.

Where the marks sit
Booklet A is 60 of the 100 marks
Thirty multiple-choice questions, 2 marks each — and no consolation marks: a pupil scores 2 or 0. Three careless MCQs cost 6 marks, more than most pupils lose across the whole of Booklet B. MCQ accuracy is not a small thing.

Booklet B is where the writing is marked
Ten to eleven structured questions carrying 2, 3, 4 or 5 marks each. A vague 4-mark answer costs a large slice of the grade, which is why the day is built around one answering framework rather than more content.

What we teach on the day
Science marks are lost in the writing, not the knowing. The day is built around one answering framework, taken straight from our trainer deck, and applied to every question type.
Cause, then effect, then evidence
One structure for every open-ended answer. It turns a half-mark scribble into a full-mark answer.
Name the concept, then link it to the data
Pupils name “photosynthesis” but never tie it to the graph in front of them. The mark is in the link.
Every wrong option is a misconception
We teach distractor analysis — working out which misconception each wrong option represents — so your child eliminates by diagnosis rather than by guessing.
Fair testing: change one, keep the rest
Naming the variable changed, the variable measured and the variables kept the same — and saying which alternative cause is being ruled out.
Reading a table to a conclusion
Melting and boiling point tables, organ-and-function tables: which conclusion the table definitely supports, and which it merely suggests.
Graphs that tell a story
Oxygen output, predator and prey, a bouncing ball. Read the shape of the curve, not just its highest point.
Structure linked to function, every time
Across the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and plant systems — the link, not the label, is what is examined.
Evaporation is not boiling
A known source of lost marks. Evaporation happens at any temperature and only at the surface; boiling happens at a fixed temperature, throughout the liquid.

The question types that decide the grade
- Graph interpretation — population, oxygen and energy graphs
- Experiments with several containers and more than one variable
- Food webs — remove one organism, and what happens next?
- Plant transport — a ringed stem, water up but food blocked
- Two-column classification tables — structure versus behaviour, organ versus function
- Circuits, magnets and shadows

What is not required
One of the most useful hours of the day.
Time spent on these is time lost. Every item below is marked “is not required” in MOE’s own syllabus — yet they still turn up in notes written against older syllabuses. We tell your child plainly what they do not need to know.

Terms that are not required
- Density
- Transparent, translucent, opaque — say “allows most / some / no light to pass through”
- Xylem, phloem, stomata, artery, vein, capillary
- Alveoli, heart chambers and valves
- Air resistance and water resistance
- Chemical, gravitational and elastic potential energy — “potential energy” is enough
Content that is not required
- Recall of named species and their specific characteristics
- Self- and cross-pollination, pollen tube formation, where fertilisation occurs
- Foetal development and how the umbilical cord supplies air, food and water
- Bone and muscle names, and how they work
- Nickel and cobalt as magnetic materials; magnetic shielding and induction
- The law of reflection; direction of friction on rolling objects
- Comparing rates of heat transfer between specific metals
Answer the verb
Four command words, four different answers. Most lost marks in Booklet B come from answering the wrong one.
State
Give a concise answer with little or no supporting argument. One clear sentence.
Describe
Write the main points, using a diagram where it helps. What happened, in order.
Explain
Link cause to effect. Naming the fact is only half an answer — say why it follows.
Compare
Give a similarity and a difference, unless the question narrows it to one.
